Obituary: Dorothy Swiatkiewicz, 89, Of South Windsor

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - Dorothy Louise (Bates) Swiatkiewicz, 89, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Francis J. Swiatkiewicz, died peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Manchester Manor, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born in Springfield, MA, on July 1, 1929, daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Kukuck) Bates. She married the love of her life, Francis, and together they settled in South Windsor in 1958 where they raised a family. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in South Windsor. Dorothy’s family was most important to her. She had a special love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and extended that to foster 57 children throughout her lifetime with her husband Frank. She also worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for many years. A kind, caring, loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will be dearly missed.

She leaves her son, Francis J. Swiatkiewicz Jr., and his wife Nancy of Enfield; her daughter, Linda Childress and her husband Tim of South Windsor; four grandchildren, Heather Pierce and her husband Keith, Jason Childress and his wife Christine, Daniel Swiatkiewicz and his wife Sonja, and Shannon Gross and her husband Tod; her brother, Richard Trombly of Glastonbury; and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Walter and Albert Trombly, and her sister, Evelyn Johnson. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, 10 a.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 239 Graham Rd., South Windsor. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in East Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the American Heart Association PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
