Obituary: Rosemary Ptachcinski, 90, Of South Windsor

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - Rosemary Elinor Ptachcinski, 90, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Richard E. Ptachcinski, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by her devoted family.

She was the mother of Judith Jorgensen of Enfield, Richard J. Ptachcinski and his wife Michele of Florida, Thomas Ptachcinski and his wife Glizel of South Windsor, and Niel Ptachcinski and his wife Kira of South Carolina; and the mother-in-law of Lee Parsons. She was “Bachie” to nine grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Aylea, Rachel, Tyler, and Jenna Ptachcinski, Leah Adam, Ashley and her husband Michael Whittle, Bryan Hall, Jay Jorgensen and his wife Jenn, and William Jorgensen and his wife Amy. She was blessed with eight great grandchildren, Brea Rose and Annalise Nicole Ptachcinski, and Miah, Sarah, Margaret, Bradford, Collin, and Landen Jorgensen; and she was the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Paul Jorgensen; and twin-sister, Josephine Murray.Rosemary was born February 23, 1928, the twin daughter of the late James and Catherine (Monahan) Smith of Waterbury. Rosemary met Richard while employed at Seth Thomas Clock Factory in Thomaston, CT and they married on Thanksgiving Day in 1951. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on November 22, 2018.

While deeply proud of her Irish heritage, she fully embraced the role of Polish Grandmother, Bachie, to all who knew her. Rosemary was the backbone of support, encouragement and pride to her entire family. They were the center of her world and she had a strong commitment to them. She spoke of them often, with unmistakable love and affection. She was a woman who possessed the key to happiness and because of this her time on earth was a gift to all.

Rosemary was always filled with a spirit that was uplifting in the way she accepted life, the love she had for her husband and family, the excitement she had for gatherings, visits and was always ready for the next adventure. Rosemary had a unique way of taking you along on her journey of happiness and contentment. She had a loving, welcoming and generous heart for family, friends, simple acquaintances and perfect strangers. Rosemary possessed an unwavering faith that carried her through her earthly journey and will welcome her on her next.

In addition to being dedicated to her family, she was always willing to “give back”. For many years she coordinated the St. Mary’s White Elephant Sale. She was very proud of her time as the State Coordinator of the Connecticut Chapter of the Interstitial Cystitis Society, where she worked tirelessly raising awareness and spent countless hours supporting others with the disease.

She had a deep love for animals, having cats at her feet for most of her life. People could always count on her greeting cards being signed by Bachie, Jajie and her beloved Gracie, accompanied by a little drawing of a cat.

She loved music, especially ABBA, Neil Diamond, The Celtic Woman and The Priests. She loved to play the piano and sing “I’m Saving My Money to Buy You a Rainbow” and “Mealtime at the Zoo” to grandchildren, family and friends.Rosemary will always be dearly loved, missed, and never forgotten by those who were fortunate enough to have her touch their lives.

Rosemary’s family will receive friends on Friday, December 7, 9-11 a.m., at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 12 Noon, at Our Lady of Peace, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Mausoleum, East Hartford.
