Picture South Windsor - Then And Now
An old photo and brief story from South Windsor's past, and how that site appears today.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — We return today to the pages of an amazing picture book entitled Images of America: South Windsor, compiled in 2017 by Claire Lobdell for the Wood Memorial Library & Museum. The book, containing 128 pages of fascinating photos from the town's history, is available for purchase at the library's museum store here.
On page 49, we find the old Main Street Baptist Church, which stood on Main Street facing east, just south of 887 Main Street. The original church was built around 1845 and a larger one built in 1873. In early 1900, the church was closed. The Abe E. Miller American Legion Post 133 was deeded the building for use by fraternal groups in 1938, but when the post could no longer afford to maintain the building, it was deeded back to the town in 1967.
The town repurposed the building as the South Windsor Community Hall, which included a bowling alley in the basement. The structure burned down in the early morning of Oct. 7, 1973, and was never replaced.
