SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A police investigation closed a portion of Troy Road for several hours Monday, according to South Windsor police.

At 2:43 p.m., police were called to 369 Troy Road after a man checking the property with a metal detector located what appeared to be a grenade buried about a foot under the grass in the front yard. The immediate area was evacuated and Troy Road between Rye and Brookfield streets was closed "out of an abundance of caution," Sgt. Mrk Cleverdon said.

The Hartford Police Department’s bomb squad arrived and took an X-ray of the item, which was found to be inconclusive. The item was seized without incident and the road was reopened around 6 p.m., Cleverdon said.
