South Windsor CMT and CAPT Scores Released

In South Windsor, town students still far exceed the state averages in both CMT and CAPT scores. CMT scores were mixed, but mostly saw gains in 2012 over 2011. Some grade levels saw relatively strong increases, while others saw drops in individual testing areas.

Even the drops in certain testing areas weren't necessarily bad news. Take, for example, fifth grade mathmatics, which saw a 10.1 percent drop in students who reached goal in a year over year analysis. But, analyzing the data another way, in 2011, 79 percent of South Windsor fourth grade students scored at goal in mathamatics, while 81.7 percent fifth graders in 2012 scored at goal. Essentially the same group of students (cohort), therefore, showed a 2.1 percent gain.

South Windsor administrators are expected to give a detailed analysis of the town's test scores to the school board in the fall.

In releasing the CMT and CAPT test scores for invididual districts this year, the state Department of Educaiton said that CMT scores — given to students in grades 3 through 8 — improved incrementally while CAPT performance — administered to 10th-graders and required for graduation — was mixed.

"While student performance increased in all content areas when compared to the CAPT baseline year of 2007, it decreased in some areas when compared to last year," the department said in a news release. "As compared to 2011, performance increased slightly in writing, remained relatively constant in science and reading, and decreased in mathematics."
