South Windsor Golfers Remain Unbeaten
A victory over Enfield High School Thursday pushed the Bobcats' record to 11-0-1.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - Senior Kevin Smith and freshman Jared Walter each fired a 1-over par 37, enabling South Windsor to remain undefeated with a 156-170 win over Enfield in high school golf action Thursday at Topstone Golf course.
John Russo, another freshman, turned in a season-best 40 in his first varsity match to help the Bobcats up their season record to 11-0-1.
Coach L.B. Gray said he has never had an undefeated season in nearly 10 years at the helm of the Bobcats.

"It's the best team I've ever had, with a lot of depth," he said. "I've had premier players, a solid one or two, but to have four guys able to break 40 takes pressure off our fifth guy."
Indeed, the Bobcats easily topped a good Enfield team despite playing without top shooter Jack Buccigross, who finished in the top 35 of the Division I state tournament last year as a sophomore.

"We don't really have a one, two and three; they are so close," Gray said of the trio of Smith, Buccigross and Walter.
Senior Peter Rommel has also been a big contributor to the team's success, and is one of the most improved players on the roster.
"I've never had a kid go from struggling to break 60 two years ago to posting sub-40 rounds," Gray said of Rommel.
Through the first 12 matches, South Windsor has prevailed against several teams with which it has struggled in the past, namely Ellington and Tolland.
The lone blemish, if it can be called that, is a 152-152 tie with East Catholic on May 2. The Bobcats will have a chance to atone for that in a May 25 rematch with the Eagles at Tallwood Country Club.
South Windsor is currently ranked ninth in Division I; the state tournament will be held June 6, also at Tallwood.
