The South Windsor High football team won for the first time this season, shutting out East Hartford High 24-0 in South Windsor on a sun-splashed October Saturday afternoon.
Receiver Jesse Lavoie had seven catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns, running back James Nyarko rushed 152 yards on just 14 carries and a score, while quarterback Ryan McDonald passed for an efficient 10 of 16 for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The 24 points was more than the Bobcats (1-5) had scored in their previous five games combined (19).
After a scoreless first quarter, Nyarko opened South Windsor’s account by powering his way into the end zone on a fourth and goal from the 4-yard line with 6:14 left in the second period. Andrew Jackson kicked the extra point to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.
Minutes later, Jackson put the Bobcats up 10-0 with a 23-yard field goal.
In the second half, the McDonald to Lavoie connection salted the game away with scoring strikes of 43 and 35 yards in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Receiver Carlton Steer had seven catches for 51 yards, while running back David Tanner rushed for 69 yards for East Hartford (0-6).
