South Windsor Man Charged In Vernon Shooting Incident

VERNON, CT — A South Windsor man is facing several charges after a Tuesday shooting incident in Vernon, police said.

He was arrested after he returned to check out the scene while police investigators were there, according to a police report.

The initial call came from a resident along the 100 block of West Main Street at 12:19 a.m. Tuesday. The resident reported hearing a single gunshot and police were told by the "victim" in the case that 37-year-old Kevin Gebhard had pointed a gun at him, according to an incident report.

Police said they actually located several shell casings at the scene and, during the investigation, saw Gebhard drive by. He was picked up on Elm St. and detained, according to an incident report. Police said they recovered a pair of guns and corresponding ammunition in Gebhard's vehicle.

Gebhard, who has a South Windsor address, was eventually charged with:

• First-degree threatening
• Second-degree breach of peace
• First-degree reckless endangerment
• Illegally possessing a weapon in a motor vehicle
• Carrying a pistol without a permit
• Illegal discharge of a firearm
• Criminal possession of a pistol
• Criminal possession of a firearm

Gebhard was initially held on a $200,000 bond, which was reduced to $50,000 at his arraignment Tuesday, judicial system records show. He was unable to bail himself out and remained in custody Wednesday, court records show. He is due to be back in court Dec. 30, court records indicate.
