South Windsor Man Charged In Vernon Subway Robbery

A suspect in a Wednesday robbery at a Vernon Subway has been charged, police said.

VERNON, CT — A South Windsor man has been charged in connection with a Wednesday robbery at a sandwich shop in Vernon, police said.

The robbery took place at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Subway restaurant, located at 53 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon. A man entered the shop, implied he had a weapon, and made off with an undetermined about of money, police said.

Police said they received a tip on Thursday morning regarding a grey Toyota Siena that was depicted on surveillance images as the getaway vehicle. Vernon detectives were able to locate the mini van and identify the driver as 38-year-old Justin Richard, of South Windsor.

Detectives spoke with Richard who confessed to his involvement in the case, police said.

Vernon detectives then secured an arrest warrant for Richard and he was taken in to custody later in the morning, police said.

Richard was charged with first-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace. He was was held Thursday afternoon in lieu of a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Friday.
