South Windsor Native Takes Army Leadership Role
A local has taken command of a US Army battalion.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - A South Windsor resident has taken a role as the US Army's 7th Engineer Battalion's commander. According to a statement from the army, Lt. Col. Glen MacDonald received an ROTC commission from the University of Connecticut and began his active duty service in 2001.
"Now that I'm positioned, it's amazing," MacDonald said. "I'm honored to be in the position, I'm honored to have been selected to do this."
He enlisted with the army in 2001, received an ROTC commission from the University of Connecticut, and is currently serving alongside his brother-in-law, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Daniel Parker, the 10th Mountain Division Band Commander.

Parker says he is happy to have the opportunity to be stationed together and is confident that MacDonald will be exceptional at his new position, according to a statement from the army."He's a very strong leader. No doubt that the 7th Engineer Battalion will do great things under his command," Parker said.
MacDonald has served on several deployments since then in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He says he was also fortunate enough to serve in the Congressional Fellowship Program to a state senator, a learning experience he had the opportunity to take part in.
