South Windsor Sports Legend Elected to Hall of Honor

He and six other honorees will be feted at a special ceremony in late October.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A sports legend from South Windsor will be one of seven honorees in the second class of the Connecticut Association of Schools-Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Hall of Honor.

The late Charles Sharos was a vital piece of the Connecticut high school athletics scene for decades. A highly-successful soccer coach, he was involved in both the CIAC and Connecticut High School Coaches Association in leadership roles throughout his career, including a lengthy tenure as tournament director for the CIAC boys and girls soccer tournaments

  • Katharine “Kit” Bishop, Westbrook
  • Robert “Jiggs” Cecchini, Suffield
  • Al Cramer, Newtown
  • Ray Faustich, Trumbull/Ridgefield
  • Tom Monahan, Bristol
  • Ivan Wood, Plainville

Monahan, Sharos and Wood will be honored posthumously.

The CAS-CIAC Hall of Honor was established to honor individuals who have made significant long-term contributions to CAS-CIAC in one of seven categories: educational leadership, athletic leadership, friend of education, contribution to education, contribution to athletics, service to education, or service to athletics.

The induction will take place Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. Tickets to the event may be purchased here.
