Standing up to the NRA

Democratic House Candidate Releases PAC Questionnaire

(South Windsor, CT) -- Saud Anwar, Democratic candidate for the 14th District State House seat, today submitted the following questionnaire to the National Rifle Association, standing up to the gun lobby’s search for opponents to gun control, saying “Any legislation that slows down the purchase of guns can save lives.”

The four-page questionnaire from the NRA’s Political Victory Fund is provided to candidates for public office. The issues covered in the 25-question document include Second Amendment support, licensing and registration of firearms, restrictions on large ammunition magazines, background checks, and stand-your-ground or “castle doctrine” legislation.

Historically, candidates who are not seeking the NRA endorsement do not fill out or return the questionnaire.

In the wake of the Orlando shooting, and the failure of the U.S. Congress to pass meaningful gun controls, Dr. Anwar made the decision to let the gun lobby know his position in support of meaningful and reasonable gun controls, and to make his answers to the NRA’s policy questions public.

“The only way to break the National Rifle Association’s influence on Congress and on our state legislatures is to stand up to them,” Anwar said. “Every voice in support of reasonable gun control matters.”

Anwar added, “The NRA is seeking support for gun policies that are in opposition to the work that I do every day as a physician, protecting and saving lives. After reading the questionnaire, I could not let it stand without a response.”
