The origins of modern wedding traditions will be traced at the June 13 program of the South Windsor Historical Society. “Something Old, Something New: Connecticut Weddings Through the Ages” will feature a speaker with photos and artifacts from the extensive collections of the Connecticut Historical Society.

Many current practices originated from Queen Victoria’s 1840 marriage, including the white bridal gown and fresh flowers. Her daughter’s choice of Richard Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus” at her nuptials is still widely chosen today. Other traditions reveal how ideas about marriage have changed through the years.

The program will be held at Wood Memorial Library & Museum, 783 Main St., South Windsor, at 7 p.m. A question-answer period and refreshments will follow. The recommended donation for the program is $5 ($3 for society members). For more information, visit , or www.woodmemoriallibrary.org.
