Woman Charged with Stealing Cellphone at South Windsor Store: PD

A shopper forgot her phone on a cashier's counter and video surveillance showed another woman take it and leave the store, police say.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT – An East Hartford woman is accused of stealing a cellphone while shopping at a Buckland Road store, according to police.

Deyanna Bowers, 23, of 264 Plain Drive, was arrested on a warrant on March 8 and charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Police said Bowers’ charge stems from 2015 larceny complaint in which a customer’s cellphone was stolen from a Buckland Road store.

The victim had forgotten the phone, leaving it on a cashier’s counter and video footage of the incident revealed that Bowers found the phone on the counter while shopping and left the store with it, according to police.

Bowers’ identity was determined by store staff due to a merchandise return transaction that required her to give identification.

Officers later obtained an arrest warrant for Bowers which was served on Tuesday evening.

Bowers was later released on a $750 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on March 17.
