Woman Smoked PCP-Laced Tobacco Before Driving: South Windsor Police

Police were alerted to a vehicle that was driving at an extremely slow speed and weaving in and out of the travel lane.

South Windsor Police say a 35-year-old woman smoked PCP-laced tobacco before getting behind the wheel early Sunday morning.

Police were advised around 1 a.m. on Nov. 8 of a vehicle being operated at an extremely slow speed and weaving in and out of the travel lane on Route 5.

An officer found the car stopped for a flashing yellow light and followed as it traveled on Sullivan Avenue at under 20 mph, weaving over the center line, according to Deputy Chief Scott Custer.

During an interview with an officer specially trained in drug recognition and impaired operators, Curtiss admitted to smoking tobacco dipped in PCP before driving, according to Custer.

Custer said a small amount of the drug-laced tobacco was found in her purse.

Curtiss was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol and possession of a controlled substance.

Curtiss was later released on $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Nov. 19.
