2 Vehicles Spin Out In Wild Crash In Willington

One driver was cited after the collision, state police said.

WILLINGTON, CT — A wild crash left two vehicles spun out on a section of Interstate 84 in Willington, state police said.

The crash took place at 9:20 p.m. Thursday.

According to a state police crash report, a 2019 Ford Transit commercial van owned by a Vermont-based contractor and being driven by a 42-year-old Hartford man was heading east in the middle lane of I-84 near Exit 70 in Willington.

A 2009 Toyota Prius being driven by a 54-year-old New York City man came up from behind at a high rate of speed with no headlights on and, when the driver attempted to pass the van, the Toyota swerved back into the van, causing to skid again 10 feet of guardrail in the center median, according to a crash report. The Toyota spun around 180 degrees and stopped pointing west in the left lane, according to a crash report.

The van driver complained of head pain and was taken to Rockville General Hospital. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, but was charged with a lane violation.
