UNION, CT — Call it autopilot error.

That was the word from state police regarding a crash involving a Tesla on Interstate 84 in Union.

The incident took place at 6:08 p.m. Sunday. According to a state police crash report, a gray Tesla T3 was heading west on I-84 in the left-hand lane near Exit 73 in Union.

The driver, a 47-year-old Salem, NY, woman, had the vehicle in "auto self-drive mode," according to a crash report.

The Tesla "spontaneously" veered to the left and into the center median and wound up hitting a metal guardrail, according to a crash report.

The driver was "not distracted,"state police said. She suffered what state police described as a minor injury.
