STAFFORD, CT — A car had a close encounter with a bridge support over the weekend in Stafford.

According to a state police crash report, a 2010 Ford Escape being driven by a 29-year-old Stafford woman was heading east on Cooper Lane just after 8 p.m. Saturday.

The car veered off the road and collided with the barrier of a small stone bridge, according to state police, who added the driver was traveling too fast.

About 4 feet of the bridge's stone barrier was damaged and the driver was not hurt, according to a state police report. She was given a verbal warning for failure to maintain the proper lane, state police said.
