Culvert Caves In, Street Closed In Stafford

STAFFORD, CT — A culvert failed in Stafford Monday morning, forcing public works officials to close a road.

The cave-in forced the closure of Furnace Hollow Road at No. 30 — The Stafford Meat Company.

The area has been plagued by heavy rains this summer and Baker Brook runs under Furnace Hollow between East and Stafford streets.

Authorities said motorists should avoid, the area and use Stafford Street, East Main Street, and East Street as a detour.
