Distracted Driver Takes Out Part Of Guardrail In Willington: Police

WILLINGTON, CT — A 47-year-old from Cheshire was cited for distracted driving Saturday after she crashed on a road in Willington and then tried to flee the scene via Interstate 84, state police said.

At 1:27 a.m., the 2012 Hyundai Sonata was heading south on River Road abut three-tenths of a mile before the I-84 west ramp, according to a crash report. The vehicle suddenly veered to the right and hit a guardrail, according to a crash report.

The driver tried to flee the scene by driving onto I-84, but was stopped by state police at Exit 67 in Tolland, according to a crash report.

The driver was cited for evading the scene of an accident, driving while using a hand-held device and a lane violation, according to state police.

About 10 feet of guardrail were damaged, state police said.
