Driver Falls Asleep, Van Damages Guardrail On Highway In Willington

WILLINGTON, CT — A driver dozed-off before the utility van he was driving slammed into a guardrail on a stretch of Interstate 84 in Willington, a state police report indicates.

The crash took place Saturday at 8:06 a.m., according to a crash report. At the time, a 2017 Ford Transit van was heading east on I-84, according to a crash report.

The driver, a a 33-year-old man from from Central Islip, NY, said he was traveling at 65 mph and fell asleep, according to a crash report. The van damaged about 30 feet of wire guardrail, state police said.

Neither the driver nor his 32-year-old passenger were hurt, according to a crash report. The driver received a written warning for a lane violation.
