UNION, CT — What state police described as a "severe mental health crisis" sent a driver and a vehicle tearing through a recreational vehicle dealership lot in Union, a crash report indicates.

State police recently released a report on the March 19 incident.

At 7:37 a.m. that day, an 86-year-old man from Fall River, MA, was driving north on Buckley Highway in a 2021 Hyundai Kona, according to a crash report.

The vehicle then proceeded through the intersection with Mashapaug Road and into the Campers Inn RV center parking lot, according to a crash report.

The vehicle then crashed into a chain link gate and sustained only minor damage, according to a crash report.

State police then cited a mental health incident and also cited the driver for failing to maintain a proper lane via a verbal warning, according to a crash report.

The driver escaped physical injury, state police said.
