UNION, CT — Not only was the commercial vehicle inspection state open Thursday on Interstate-84 in Union, but the law enforcement efforts were fruitful in terms of tickets.

During the day-long initiative, which included speed enforcement, 22 commercial vehicle inspections were conducted, resulting in the discovery of 67 driver/vehicle violations. As a result, 12 vehicles/drivers were placed out-of-service and more than $43,000.00 in commercial fines were issued., state police said.

One trucker tried to bypass the inspection station and a gun was taken from the vehicle after it was pulled over, state police said. Se more on the incident here.

The detail was set up Thursday by the Connecticut State Police Traffic Services Unit Aggressive Driving Enforcement Team and Truck Squad with inspectors from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles Commercial Vehicle Safety Division at the weight and inspections station in Union.
