$13 Million Renovation of Bayview Towers is Complete

A $13 million renovation of the 200-unit Bayview Towers affordable housing complex in downtown Stamford is now complete.

And local, state and federal officials marked the project’s completion with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4) spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony today formally announcing the completion of the energy efficiency upgrades and renovation of the Bayview Towers on Tresser Boulevard. Also attending were Stamford Mayor David Martin, Connecticut Department of Housing Commissioner Evonne Klein, Connecticut Housing Finance Authority Executive Director Eric Chapman, along with a representative of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the NHP Foundation, and staff and residents for the event.

The renovation of the 41-year old towers included full indoor remodeling and upgrades, energy efficient lighting and appliance installation, and significant capital improvements to the outside of the buildings and plumbing, electrical and elevator systems.

“I am pleased to join the individuals and organizations that made this extensive renovation possible today to celebrate its completion,” Himes said. “This project means that Bayview residents will continue to have access to affordable — and now updated and energy-efficient — housing to support their lives, families, and the Stamford community. It also serves as a fine example of the work that can be accomplished when federal, state, and local governments and private entities partner to support our communities and our people.”

Martin said, “The City of Stamford made an important decision to continue to support the Bayview community, and I am pleased with the cooperation of the many government and private entities that made this effort a success. This is a much-needed improvement for the residents of Bayview and for our Stamford community.”

The project was carried out by the NHP Foundation in partnership with the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, PNC Bank, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Connecticut Light and Power, and the City of Stamford.
