2 Pedestrians Killed After Getting Hit By Car In Downtown Stamford: Police
The collision occurred just after 2 a.m. Several factors, including speeding and intoxication, are being investigated, police said.

STAMFORD, CT — Two pedestrians — both 25-years-old and Stamford residents — were killed early Saturday morning after getting hit by a car in downtown Stamford, according to police.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the car at this time. Several factors in the crash, including speeding and intoxication, are being investigated, police said.
Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police Department said an initial investigation shows that at approximately 2:05 a.m., a 2022 Mercedes Benz, driven by a 24-year-old Greenwich resident, was traveling southbound on Washington Boulevard when it struck the pedestrians who were walking westbound in the crosswalk across Washington Boulevard at Main Street.

Booth noted that the status of the pedestrian control signal at the crosswalk is unknown at this time.
The force of the impact caused both pedestrians to be thrown into the northbound lanes of Washington Boulevard, Booth said. The victims were taken to Stamford Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The Mercedes sustained heavy damage and continued for a short distance before stopping just north of the Stamford Government Center, Booth said.
The driver got out and tried to flee the scene on foot, but witnesses pointed out his direction to arriving police officers, Booth said.
An officer found the driver hiding behind a dumpster in the rear of a building on Relay Place, Booth said. He was detained before being taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment of minor, non-life threatening injuries.
Washington Boulevard was closed to traffic both ways for about six hours while the on-scene investigation took place.
The investigation remains open. Anyone with further information is being asked to call the SPD's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 203-977-4712.
