STAMFORD, CT — Four Stamford residents were fined for violating the state's coronavirus travel restrictions, according to a spokesperson for Gov. Ned Lamont's office.

In an email to Patch, Director of Communications Max Reiss said the four city residents were fined $1,000 each. He emphasized Lamont is taking the travel restrictions seriously and will continue to enforce them. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

According to NBC Connecticut, the four residents, whose names were not released, were fined after returning from North Carolina and failing to complete a travel quarantine form. An Old Lyme resident who returned from Texas was also fined.

Last month, Lamont signed an executive order subjecting visitors who violate the state's coronavirus travel advisory to a fine.

Earlier this week, he showed he meant business when law enforcement officials issued the first such fines to two people who refused to fill out the travel quarantine form. One was from Louisiana and the other was from Florida. One of the travelers was fined twice — once for not filling out the travel form and another for not following the 14-day quarantine rule.

States are put on the advisory list if they have a daily positive coronavirus test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a 10 percent or higher positive rate over a seven-day rolling average.
