6 Stamford Business Sold Vape Products To Minors: Police

In conjunction with the state, police recently conducted compliance checks at eight Stamford businesses.

STAMFORD, CT — Six Stamford businesses sold vape products to undercover youth during recent compliance checks, according to the Stamford Police Department.

"We're still getting many complaints from concerned parents, school administrators about shops freely selling vape products to underage kids," said Asst. Police Chief Richard Conklin on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the department's Narcotics & Organized Crime Squad, in conjunction with the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and its Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, targeted eight businesses around the city, using undercover youth to make purchases, Conklin said.

Offending clerks at six businesses were fined $300 for a first-time offense. The businesses are:

  • Mohegan Smoke and Vape, 900 High Ridge Road
  • Mohegan Smoke Shop, 946 Hope St.
  • Smoke Times, 108 Bedford St.
  • High Ridge Convenience, 871 High Ridge Road
  • Landmark Smoke Shop & Convenience, 118 Broad St.
  • Vapor Box, 100 Greyrock Place, 4th floor

Stamford police conducted similar compliance checks in October 2022. Different clerks at Landmark Smoke Shop & Convenience, Mohegan Smoke Shop and Mohegan Smoke and Vape were cited then, police said.

Conklin noted that officers and the state will continue to follow up with offending businesses and conduct future checks around the city.

With adult recreational marijuana sales now legal in Connecticut, Conklin said police will be on the lookout for smoke shops selling cannabis products without a license, a problem that has plagued New York City in recent months, the New York Times reported.

"It's certainly something we'll monitor. We've heard some rumors of that," Conklin said. "If we get any intel we will act."
