$80,000 Worth Of Rolex Watches Stolen From Stamford Store: Police

STAMFORD, CT — Police are searching for two men who stole $80,000 worth of watches from a Stamford department store Wednesday evening. Around 5:45 p.m., two men wearing dark clothing and hooded sweatshirts entered a Lord & Taylor store on High Ridge Road and made their way to the fine jewelry counter.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the men immediately took two small sledgehammers out of a backpack and smashed the glass of the display case. The suspects then quickly grabbed 8-10 expensive Rolex watches and ran out the door.

Conklin said the total value of the stolen watches was approximately $80,000 altogether, an "unusually large amount" for such a robbery.

"Luckily, nobody was hurt," Conklin said. "This was a very traumatic theft."

The men were last seen getting into a dark-colored SUV and heading eastbound, through the parking lot and onto High Ridge Road.

"They were in and out very quickly," Conklin said to Patch, "a matter of a couple of minutes."

Conklin said the men were in their late 20's/early 30's, both with medium builds. They were both a medium height as well.

Officers are working with the store's loss prevention department and speaking with witnesses. They will also be reviewing the store's security camera footage, Conklin said.
