Woman Dies After Being Struck By Car, ID Released: Stamford Police

STAMFORD, CT — The woman who was struck by a car in Stamford on Friday morning has died, according to an update from police.

Police identified the woman as Carmen Illapa, 78, of Stamford. The department had asked for the public's help with identification as Illapa did not have ID on her at the time of the crash.

Illapa was walking across Progress Drive in the area of Stillwater Avenue at approximately 5:30 a.m. on July 31 when she was struck by a 2022 Ford Escape that was driven by a 28-year-old Stamford resident, police said.

The driver stayed on scene and spoke to responding officers.

Illapa was initially taken to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition, but she died from her injuries later in the afternoon, police said.

Police noted the driver is not being identified at this time and has cooperated with the investigation. No charges have been filed as of late Saturday morning.
