The event is the school's largest PTO fundraiser of the year.

STAMFORD, CT — Toquam Magnet Elementary School will host its annual Jog-a-Thon on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with a $10,000 fundraising goal and an appearance by Stamford content creator and community advocate Mike Squires.

The event is the school's largest PTO fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will support enrichment opportunities, classroom resources, student activities, staff appreciation and family events. DJ Aiden Jules is donating his services to provide music.

Squires, who helped turn a $1,000 student rewards initiative into more than $15,000 in prizes for Stamford students, became involved after a chance encounter with Jaime Ross, Toquam's elementary math support specialist.

Physical education teachers James Agostino and Zac Alza are leading the event with help from the PTO board, Principal Sibyl Brooks, school staff, families and volunteers.

Toquam is an AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, magnet elementary school focused on perseverance, academic readiness and teamwork.

The school was named a Connecticut School of Distinction in 2018. Its Jog-a-Thon tradition encourages students to support one another on and off the field.

The PTO is seeking donations from families, alumni, local businesses and the Stamford community. Donations of any size are accepted. Online donations and paper pledges are due Friday, Oct. 16. The top fundraising class will receive an ice cream party.

The event will take place at Toquam Magnet Elementary School, 123 Ridgewood Ave.

Donations can be made through the fundraising page. School updates are available on Toquam's Facebook page, and information about DJ Aiden Jules is available here.
