STAMFORD, CT — A video appeared online Saturday, which appears to show Gov. Ned Lamont smacking a phone with his hand while a woman was asking him a question.

According to the video, the woman said she is a reporter for Connecticut Centinal, and she can be heard asking Lamont, "Why did you touch my camera?" You're not supposed to be touching my camera. That's assault."

The woman was asking a question to Lamont regarding one of his campaign staff at the time of the incident, according to the video. You can watch the video here.

Lamont, who was at Scalzi Park in Stamford on Saturday morning for an event, told WFSB 3 TV that he thought Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan Fazio is "getting desperate."

"Maybe somebody came to an event and tried to stir up some trouble," Lamont said.

Lamont's campaign, via WFSB 3 TV, said that for months "political provocateurs have shown up to disrupt the Governor's events..."

The campaign said that these so-called "journalists" are actually supporters of the Republican candidates, and they are "trying to turn nothing into something in a last-ditch effort to generate attention for (Fazio's) struggling campaign."

Fazio told WFSB 3 TV that Lamont's actions were "shameful," and that he should apologize.
