Beach-bound in Stamford: Children's Parade, International Festival Is Set for Saturday

There are two free beach events this weekend.

Mayor David Martin announced that the Stamford’s Multicultural Council will be sponsoring two free beach events on Saturday, Oct. 18, starting at noon and 2 p.m.

At noon, all children of Stamford are invited to Cummings Beach Park to participate in the Second Annual Children’s Parade. Children ages 4 to 11 are invited to march in the parade, participate in a variety of hands-on activities, and enjoy a free lunch. All participating youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. (Note: registration for children who want to participate begins at 1 a.m.)

At 2 p.m., the inangural International Festival will also be held at Cummings Beach Park. The festival will feature performances by 11 folkloristic groups representing many different countries as well as international dance groups, music and food.

Martin thanked the members of the Multicultural Council including Chair Jere Eaton, as well as the other volunteers who worked over the past few months to put these two events together. “The International Festival following the Children’s Parade is a welcome addition. We are looking forward to people of all ages enjoying the festivities at the park on Saturday,” Martin said.
