Beacon School Is Set to Open New Stamford Campus

The school is located at the former Mother of God Academy campus in the city's Hubbard Heights neighborhood.

The Beacon School is celebrating its move to the historic Hubbard Mansion at 111 W. North St. in Stamford with a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on Thursday.

Stamford Mayor David Martin is scheduled to officially open the new campus with a ribbon cutting at noon. Presentation speakers will include head of school Meredith Hafer, an expert in gifted education and individualized learning; Victoria C. Newman, founder and executive director of Greenwich Education Group, Beacon’s parent organization; Eric Kaye, president of Greenwich Education Group’s School Foundation and parent of a Beacon alumnus; and assistant head of school John Coperine, a veteran teacher and administrator who recently joined Beacon after a career in the Stamford Public Schools.

When the Beacon School recognized its need to expand in order to accommodate the demands of the school community, it was able to procure the unique space for its new location. Formerly the home of Mother of God Academy, the Hubbard Mansion is located in the Hubbard Heights section of Stamford, one block from Stamford Hospital. Incorporating elements from the original 1890 structure as well as its subsequent expansion, the building contains classrooms, a library, a gymnasium, a performance space, expansive meeting rooms, and ample grounds. The site also includes a separate building for the lower school program and housing for international students.
