Bobby Valentine Announces Creation of Film Production Company

Along with producer Andrew J. Muscato, Makuhari Media will focus on producing sports themed documentaries.

At its regular board meeting Monday night, the officially confirmed Bobby Valentine as the , but that's not the only new position that the ESPN commentator and former Mets manger has taken on. Valentine is also going into movie production business.

Valentine announced this week the creation of Makuhari Media, a film production company. Formed with producer Andrew J. Muscato, Makuhari Media will focus on producing sports themed documentaries.

"To have this opportunity to create sports documentaries by teaming with Andrew Muscato is one of the most exciting and fulfilling ventures of my lifetime," Valentine said in a statement.

Valentine and Muscato met back in 2008 when Muscato produced the ESPN documentary "The Zen of Bobby V," which chronicled Valentine's baseball managing career in Japan. The two have already begun work on producing three documentary features.

The first film is tentatively titled "Pelotero" and follows two young baseball prospects from the Dominican Republic who dream of signing Major League contracts. According to Valentine, the documentary will " bring viewers into the world of Dominican youth baseball like no other film before it."

"This vivid and captivating documentary will stand alone in its presentation of this fabulous baseball culture," he said.

The second documentary will feature a chess tournament between the Princeton University Chess Club and prison inmates who are serving life sentences, while the other will present the life and career of former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca as he completes his autobiography.

Muscato will produce and direct the films, while Valentine will serve as executive producer.
