Boyfriend Changes Story in Fatal Stamford Christmas Fire: Report

The fire left three children and two adults dead in 2011.

STAMFORD, CT- New information about the 2011 Shippan Avenue fire that killed five including three children has surfaced during legal proceedings.

Michael Borcina, the boyfriend of children's mother Madonna Badger originally told police that he placed a bag of ashes in the mudroom. He now says that he lied to investigators in order to protect Badger from carrying the burden, according to the Hartford Courant.

Investigators have said they believe the ashes started the fire.

Father of the children Matthew Badger is suing the city and has offered to settle for $17 million. He also offered a $3 million settlement to Best Electrical Contracting, who did some work on the house prior to the fire. They both declined settlements.
