House Fire Displaces 3 Residents, Pet: Stamford FD

STAMFORD, CT — Three residents and a pet were displaced by a fire that broke out in a North Stamford home early Monday morning, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a home on Chestnut Hill Road around 3 a.m. after 911 dispatch received a call from a resident reporting their home was on fire and that another family member was still inside, the SFD said in a news release, noting the caller was trying to help the family member to safety.

Arriving units from Engine Company 8 found heavy fire in the rear of the home involving a screened porch, kitchen and family room, with flames extending into the attic space and heavy smoke throughout the 1.5-story structure.

Firefighters extended a large-caliber hose line to knock down exterior flames and direct water into the attic soffit area, the SFD said.

The second-arriving Engine Company 9 stretched an interior hose line through the front door of the home to extinguish the remaining fire in the first-floor kitchen and family room.

Due to the home's rural location, a tanker was used to supply water to the scene, the SFD said.

Portable pools were set up and filled by tankers from the Turn of River Volunteer Fire Department, Long Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, and Stamford's mutual-aid partners, including the Banksville, Pound Ridge, and New Canaan Fire Departments

Rescue Company 1 and Engine Company 7 conducted primary and secondary searches of the home and confirmed all occupants and their dog safely evacuated the home before conditions inside deteriorated, the SFD said.

The fire was brought under control within 54 minutes, according to SFD, and the home sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. The American Red Cross was requested to help three displaced residents and their pet.

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office.
