Celebrate National Poetry Month at The Ferguson Library

The Ferguson Library hosts programs in April for National Poetry Month, the largest literary celebration in the world.

During the month of April, The Ferguson Library will host several programs to celebrate National Poetry Month. Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month, held every April, is the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture. All Library programs are generously supported by the Friends of The Ferguson Library. For more information, call 203 964-1000.

On Tuesday, April 7 at 6 p.m. at the Main Library, DiMattia Building, Peter J. O’Connell will present, “What the Great Poets Had to Say about Aging.” Though we often tend to associate poetry with youth (young love and all that), the great poets had much to say – profound, poignant, humorous – about aging and the last of life. Mr. O’Connell is a professional writer, editor and researcher and a former college instructor.

On Wednesday, April 22 at 7 p.m., at the Main Library, DiMattia Building, poet, playwright and stage director James B. Nicola will present “Sounding the Silence,” a workshop/demonstration of the devices of music and silence in classical and contemporary verse using some of the great poems of the past and present, as well as his own poems. This workshop is considered a must for poetry lovers, poets, students, and English teachers.
