City Closes on Purchase of Site of Former Sacred Heart Academy for $9.75 Million
City officials want to use the property for a future public school.

The 10.8-acre site of the former Sacred Heart Academy at 200 Strawberry Hill Ave. was expected to change hands from the Sisters of St. Joseph to the City of Stamford early Thursday afternoon for $9.75 million.

The City of Stamford [was] expected to close on the purchase of 200 Strawberry Hill Ave. Thursday and assume ownership of the campus, completing a nearly yearlong process to acquire the property. The purchase was met by widespread support on the Planning Board, Board of Finance and Board of Representatives, hailed as a historic purchase for the city.
The 10.8 acre property is the former site of Sacred Heart Academy, which closed in 2006, and most recently as the site for the Stamford Campus for The Stanwich School. The City will finalize the purchase of the property for $9.75 million.
Mayor David Martin and Sister Susan Cunningham, President of The Sisters of St. Joseph Corporation, will sign the final paperwork in the Mayor’s Conference Room, followed by a presentation of the keys at 200 Strawberry Hill Avenue. Members of the Planning Board, Board of Finance, Board of Representatives and Board of Education have been invited to attend.
