Contractor in Fatal Stamford Christmas Fire Nowhere to be Found: Report

His records are critical to a lawsuit filed by the father of the children killed in the blaze.

STAMFORD, CT- The contractor in charge of renovations that occurred before the fatal 2011 Christmas fire that killed three children and two adults is nowhere to be found.

Michael Borcina's construction records are critical to a lawsuit filed by the children's father, according to the Hartford Courant.

Stamford assistant corporation counsel Barbara Coughlan said that they were informed that Borcina cannot be located and its unclear what efforts have been made to locate him.

Borcina, the boyfriend of children's mother Madonna Badger originally told police that he placed a bag of ashes in the mudroom. He recently changed his story and said that he lied to investigators in order to protect Badger from carrying the burden.

Father of the children Matthew Badger is suing the city and has offered to settle for $17 million. He also offered a $3 million settlement to Best Electrical Contracting, who did some work on the house prior to the fire. They both declined settlements.
