Several cooling center are available in Stamford for residents looking to beat the heat.

STAMFORD, CT — There are several cooling centers available in Stamford for residents looking to beat the heat.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-90s on Thursday, with the heat index around 97, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents should stay indoors as much as possible, avoid direct sunlight, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, take cool showers and baths, and drink more water than usual, the city said in a Facebook post.

Gov. Ned Lamont on Wednesday announced that due to an updated weather forecast, he is directing Connecticut’s extreme hot weather protocol to be extended for an additional day and remain in effect through 8 p.m. Friday.
