Coronavirus Stamford Updates: Hotel Announces 100+ Layoffs
The Sheraton Stamford Hotel has announced over 100 of its employees have been temporarily laid off in light of the new coronavirus.
STAMFORD, CT — The Sheraton Stamford Hotel announced this week 103 employees have been temporarily laid off in light of the new coronavirus. The temporary layoffs went into effect on March 19, according to a letter submitted to the state Department of Labor on Monday, April 13.

"The actions being taken by the hotel were caused by COVID-19-related business circumstances that were not reasonably foreseeable as...[the virus] prompted numerous restrictions on travel and group meetings," the letter states.

The letter also indicates most of the hotel's guest reservations and other anticipated business "for the next two to three months" have been cancelled as a result of the virus.
The hotel, located on East Main Street, offers "a host of modern amenities" to business and leisure travelers, including a café, restaurant, lobby bar, complimentary Wi-Fi, a fitness center and an indoor heated pool, according to their website.
