Country School Lights The Night

Over 60 members of the Pre-K through Grade 9 school community walked to raise money and awareness.

From New Canaan Country School: Members of the New Canaan Country School community raised red, yellow and white lanterns at the annual Light the Night walk on Oct. 28. More than 60 students, faculty, staff and alumni attended the event, raising $5,300 (surpassing their goal of $5,000) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

For the fourth consecutive year, Country School participated in the walk, which honors blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and helped to shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients. By walking, participants also honored the legacy of Kyle Markes. Kyle attended NCCS and waged a heroic battle against the disease; passing away during his 6th grade year.

“The Walk helped students understand that by showing up and putting our energy behind a cause, we can effectuate change,” said Upper School Teacher and Co-Director of Service Learning Will McDonough. “We are a school that cares deeply about our students and our families; and we are also a school that cares about the broader community.”
