As COVID Cases Rise, Mayor Martin Urges People To Get Vaccinated
As of July 29, according to an update from Stamford, the city's seven-day average has risen to 13 cases per 100,000 residents.

STAMFORD, CT — As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, Mayor David Martin is urging unvaccinated residents to go out and take the shot.
Following a steady decline over the past several months, COVID-19 cases are increasing due in large part to the delta variant, which is more contagious than previous variants. As of July 20, the delta variant, which originated in India, represented about 83 percent of new cases in the United States, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Wolensky.
As of July 29, according to an update from Stamford, the city's seven-day average has risen to 13 cases per 100,000 residents. This represents a 145 percent one-week increase from the seven-day average of 5.3 cases per 100,000 residents reported on July 22.

"I am extremely proud that Stamford has one of the highest vaccination rates in the State with 83.8 percent of the eligible population vaccinated with at least one dose. However, there are still many residents who have not yet received the vaccine, and the delta variant is a new and growing COVID threat," Mayor David Martin said in a news release Thursday. "I am urging unvaccinated residents to get vaccinated to help protect our community from this disease. I also urge both unvaccinated and vaccinated people alike to practice reasonable safety precautions to protect those in our city who are particularly vulnerable, such as wearing face coverings in public indoor spaces and common areas to eliminate a potential spread."
The Department of Health has continued to run a thorough vaccination campaign to encourage more residents to receive the vaccination and minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19.
