
STAMFORD, CT — A coyote killed a small dog on Greenfield Road this past week. The 15-pound dachshund-Yorkshire terrier mix Dewey was attacked just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Dewey ran after the coyote in the distance and was found dead the next morning, according to the Stamford Advocate.
An animal control officer said that coyotes can be spotted in virtually every part of the city.

Coyotes are naturally afraid of humans, but behavior such as feeding them can make them lose that natural fear.
They become more territorial in the spring and may view dogs as competition. Small dogs and cats can be viewed as prey. It is important to keep an eye on pets.
Coyotes can be scared off with loud noises or other aggressive behavior such as throwing sticks and stones near them.

A full-grown coyote is 48 to 60 inches long from nose to tail and they typically weigh in at 30 to 50 pounds, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
