STAMFORD, CT — After over three decades in business, Critic's Choice Video in Stamford will close its doors on Dec. 31, according to local media reports.

Owner Wayne Wofsey opened Critic's Choice Video in 1990 and has navigated his way through the demise of Blockbuster and the boom of the streaming service age, but he now intends to move to Arizona to be closer to family so the business must shutter, the Stamford Advocate reported.

Located inside the Springdale Shopping Center at 1086 Hope St., the store is believed to be one of two remaining independent video rental stores in Connecticut, with the other being Best Video Film & Video Cultural Center in Hamden, the Advocate noted.

More than 20,000 movie titles are available for purchase before the store closes, News 12 Connecticut said. DVDs are listed for sale at $5, VHS tapes for $2, CDs for $3 and LPs for $5.

Another symbol of the video rental era in Stamford made headlines earlier this year when the Blockbuster Video sign was taken down over East Main Street.
