STAMFORD, CT — Following a several-week investigation, Stamford police said they arrested a 38-year-old man on Feb. 9 and recovered a stolen gun and drugs.

Jamaine Jones, who goes by the nickname "Main Source," was stopped in a car by police on Vine Road near Newfield around 4 p.m., last Friday, Assistant Stamford Police Chief said.

The Stamford Police Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad (NOC) had launched an investigation into Jones and possible crack cocaine and PCP sales throughout the city, Conklin noted.

NOC officers located a Beretta "PX4 Storm" 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine in Jones' car, according to Conklin. The serial number was scratched out on two locations, but a third spot was left untouched.

Conklin said the gun was reported stolen out of South Carolina in 2020.

Additionally, Jones was found in possession of 11 bags of crack cocaine, several pieces of loose crack cocaine, and $2,334 in cash, Conklin said, adding that officers also recovered three jars containing mint leaves soaked in PCP, packaging material and a scale in the car.

Police said Jones, a convicted felon, took ownership of the drugs along with the gun.

Jones has prior convictions and arrests related to robbery, assault, sale of narcotics, threatening and criminal possession of a firearm, Conklin said.

In connection with this latest arrest, Jones was charged with: criminal possession of a firearm; criminal possession of ammunition; theft of a firearm; altering ID marks on a firearm; illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine; weapons in a motor vehicle; possession of narcotics; possession of narcotics with intent to sell; possession of a hallucinogen; possession of a hallucinogen with intent to sell; operating a drug factory; and violation of a protective order.

The charges came with a $250,000 bond. Jones is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Feb. 23.

"This was a very nice, proactive job by Narcotics and Organized Crime working with the patrol division," Conklin said. "At the end of this scenario, they got another illegal, stolen handgun off the streets. That goes a long way toward keeping our community safe."
