DUI Driver From Stamford Clocked In Excess Of 100 MPH: State Police

Police said a Stamford man was driving at a high rate of speed and swerving across lanes on I-95 in Greenwich early Wednesday.

STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford man was arrested early Wednesday morning after Connecticut State Police say he was driving under the influence and driving more than 100 mph on I-95 in Greenwich.

The 28-year-old man was charged with operating under the influence, reckless driving and failure to slow or move over for an emergency vehicle, state police said.

At approximately 1:13 a.m., Wednesday, a state trooper from Troop G in Bridgeport was parked on the right shoulder of I-95 southbound near Exit 3 in Greenwich on an unrelated traffic stop when they saw a Toyota Tacoma pass the cruiser at "an excessive rate of speed," state police said.

The trooper followed the Toyota and clocked the vehicle at speeds in excess of 100 mph in the posted 55 mph zone, state police said, adding the vehicle was swerving across lanes "in an erratic manner" efore it exited the highway at Exit 2.

A traffic stop was initated, and the trooper noticed the arrestee's eyes appeared to be bloodshot and there was a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from inside the vehicle, state police said.

State police said the arrestee initially denied consuming alcoholic everages but later admitted he had done so before driving.

The arrestee did not perform field sobriety tests to standard, and he was taken into custody, state police said.

He was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 27.
