Everyone Learns a Little Differently

Way back when I was in school I had little trouble doing well on tests so long as I crammed the night before. However, my sister struggled with tests in spite of the fact that she excelled in every other aspect of school and was much more the diligent model student then I was. It's hard for a sibling to cope with such a seemingly unfair bias, which was always a point of contention between my sister and I throughout our childhood. And for the life of me, I couldn't understand why I was better at this whole school thing so the only conclusion that made any sense to me and to my sis at that time was, I am just smarter than her.

Hahaaaa! Yea Riiiiiiight!?

It makes me giggle typing that because now that we are older and she makes about $100,000 a year while I'm stuck making the same amount I made when I was 16 years old. It seems like the conclusions we drew when we were younger were based more on an unfair bias the school system had towards the type of mind I have, rather than on what in life is really important.

I'm much more a Combination learner than her, so I can learn by reading, seeing and doing. What's more, I have an overactive imagination that allows me to see what I'm reading as I read it. Whereas my sister is FAR more an auditory learner who excels at doing what she's told. She's much better at listening than myself, so why did I do better in school, yet she's kicking my butt at life?

I've got my thoughts but what are yours?

How do you learn?

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE LEARNING STYLE?

How can teachers be more effective at teaching to the various learning styles?
