Family Of Comatose Student Sues Stamford YMCA: Report
Zhaojie Yiang, 22, a UConn student from China, nearly drowned at the facility in 2017.

STAMFORD, CT — The family of a 22-year-old UConn student from China is seeking $35 million in a lawsuit against the Stamford YMCA in connection with the student's near drowning at the Bell Street facility in 2017, writes the Connecticut Post.
Zhaojie Yiang was pulled out of the pool at the Y on Oct. 13 after a friend saw the unconscious Yiang at the bottom. He had gone to the Y for a swim, according to the publication.
He has been in a coma ever since, and according to his attorneys with Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder, Yiang "suffered severe, permanent, and irreversible brain damage" as a result of a prolonged lack of oxygen to his brain while he was underwater.
