Family Dog Rescued From House Fire In Stamford: FD
The dog was found unresponsive, and firefighters administered oxygen using a pet resuscitation mask, the department said.
STAMFORD, CT — A dog was rescued from a house fire in Stamford over the weekend, according to the fire department, but the family was displaced due to fire and smoke damage.
At 1:38 p.m. on Jan. 24, the Stamford Combined 911 and Communications Center received a report of black smoke coming from a residence in the 170 block of Montauk Drive.
The home is a two story wood frame residential unit, attached to a neighboring unit that was unoccupied at the time of the incident, the Stamford Fire Department said in a news release.

Westside Engine 3 arrived first at 1:42 p.m. and confirmed a working fire. Firefighters reported flames and heavy smoke showing from the second floor.
The main body of fire was located in a front second floor bedroom and was knocked down within two minutes of the initial attack, the SFD noted.

Occupants advised first responders that one adult and three children were safely out of the home, but they also reported that their dog was still inside, the SFD said.
During a search of the home, firefighters located the dog in a rear second floor bedroom.
The dog was unresponsive and was immediately removed from the home, and firefighters administered oxygen using a pet resuscitation mask designed specifically to fit over an animal’s muzzle.
The dog began breathing but remained in serious condition with shallow respirations, the SFD said.
The SFD said pet resuscitation equipment is carried on Stamford fire apparatus and inspected regularly, although it is rarely used.
In September 2024, Stamford firefighters rescued 15 pets from a separate incident, and all were transported and treated by Cornell Animal Hospital on Canal Street.
The dog that was rescued on Saturday was transported to the same facility and arrived breathing but still in serious condition, the SFD said. It was not immediately clear Monday what the dog's condition was.
A second alarm was requested at 1:47 p.m. due to concerns of fire extension into the attic and the severe cold weather conditions, the SFF said. The fire was declared under control at 2:22 p.m. by the incident commander.
One adult and three children were relocated to a local hotel with assistance from the American Red Cross, the SFD said. The attached neighboring unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire and sustained minor damage.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office.
The SFD responded to a separate incident later the same day, in which several pets were killed in a house fire.
